Door Sensor & Contact: Types of Alarm Sensors for Open Door Alerts
One of the most common devices used in home security systems are door sensors/contacts. These are important devices because they can detect when a door is open. These devices can be tied into an alarm monitoring system where a third party will monitor when the alarm is active. Many people with small children also use these devices to monitor which doors are opened in the house (even when the alarm isn't on). Some of the more complex systems can say exactly which door or window is currently open. Below are the common types of devices that are used to monitor open doors.
Surface Mount Magnetic Contact Door Sensor
These types of sensors are the easiest to install out of all of the door sensor contacts available. Many times people opt to use recessed door contacts over these because these contacts are visible to the eye. Being visible also makes them a bit more vulnerable to tampering.
Recessed Door Contacts
These types of contacts are installed inside the door and frame and are not visible when the door is shut. Since they are not visible, they are more appealing to the eye and are less vulnerable to be tampered with.
Garage Door Magnetic Door Sensor
These types of sensors are very similar to the types of sensors mentioned and work in a very similar manner but these are more durable and can withstand the weight of a vehicle going over it.
